The Heroes Foundation has welcomed Darrion M. Narine as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking the beginning of a new phase for the organisation as it looks towards expanding its reach and deepening its impact across Trinidad and Tobago.

Darrion’s career has taken him across youth development, education, psychosocial support, arts and culture, programme management and organisational leadership. He describes himself as a social entrepreneur, creative strategist, socio-cultural development specialist and Applied Drama Practitioner, but much of his work has been connected by the same question: how do we create environments where people, particularly young people, are given a meaningful opportunity to grow?

Before joining Heroes, Darrion served in leadership and programme roles across civil society and the development sector. His experience includes serving as Civil Society Advisory Governor of the Commonwealth Foundation, Programme Manager for the Archdiocesan Ministry for Migrants and Refugees and Executive Director of the Samaritan Movement. His work has also brought him into partnership with schools, community organisations, international development agencies and UN organisations.

Creativity is also a significant part of his professional life.

As an Applied Drama Practitioner, Darrion has used theatre, storytelling and participatory techniques within education, leadership development and community work. He is also the Founder and Managing Director of Cindon Productions, where he has worked extensively with children and young people in the performing arts.

For Heroes, he sees significant opportunity ahead.

The immediate focus is on strengthening the Foundation’s programmes, increasing its presence within schools, building new partnerships and creating more opportunities for children and young people to participate meaningfully in their communities.

At the heart of that vision is an understanding that leadership development does not begin when someone receives a title.

It starts much earlier.

It starts when a young person realises that their ideas have value, that their choices have consequences and that they have the ability to influence the world around them.

That is the kind of leadership Heroes intends to continue nurturing.
