About the Heroes Foundation
To Inspire & Empower
Founded in 2002 with a mission to ignite the heroic spirit within Trinidad and Tobago’s youth, the Heroes Foundation is an award-winning specialist organisation supporting young people along a transformative development pathway to overcome life’s challenges and become 21st-century leaders.
WHY WE’RE HERE
The inaugural Heroes Convention brought together hundreds of secondary school students, national icons, and everyday heroes in an exciting environment of inspiration and learning.
Feedback from participants, educators, and parents highlighted several critical insights:
1. THE NEED FOR CREATIVITY: Young people desired more creative experiences that exposed them to opportunities beyond their regular environment and encouraged them to set positive life goals.
2. BRIDGING ACADEMIC RELEVANCE: Many students struggled to see the connection between their academic studies and their future prospects, often leading to apathy towards education. This divide was was exacerbated by the allure of quicker gratification from negative life choices, such as involvement in drugs and gangs.
3. LINKING EDUCATION TO ASPIRATIONS: Students would be more motivated to remain in school if they could establish a direct link between their studies and their life goals, personal interests, or hobbies.
4. SUPPORT FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHALLENGES: Young people facing socio-economic challenges required additional psychosocial and life skills support beyond what traditional education offered.
In response to these insights, Heroes founder, Philip Julien, and the Founding Advisory Board initiated a series of Heroes Conventions and introduced long-term development and mentorship programmes that provide ongoing support and guidance to young people to help them achieve personal and professional growth
