What do you do?

I lead a team in the energy sector dedicated to developing projects that will provide greener, cleaner, and more sustainable ways to produce energy and petrochemicals. Energy is critical to our country’s economy, and I believe that finding more sustainable ways to produce and conserve energy, benefits our country and our planet.

Why are you passionate about The Heroes Foundation?

I am passionate about the Heroes Foundation because of its ability and potential to inspire our younger generation to embrace their inner Hero, and share their greatness with the world. I firmly believe that our people, particularly our young people, have such incredible potential that lies untapped, that once they realise it, and unleash it, our country will never be the same – and that is exactly what our country needs – the next generation of Heroes, to lead us all to a better and brighter future.

Who are some of your heroes and why?

Some (not all) of my Heroes are: My Mom and Dad – for their unwavering support in all that I do, seeking nothing in return, and always being there for me. The late Justice Ulric Cross-for his confidence, grace, strength, unwvering service to country and civic society, and his quiet humility in all of his remarkable undertakings, including agreeing to be the first Advisory Board Chairman for the Heroes Foundation. The late Stan Lee of Marvel Comics fame – for being the quintessential believer in Super-Heroes and what they represented; his belief was contagious to me since childhood, and has served as the cornerstone for my life-long love of the super-hero genre, and its power to inspire others, to Believe in Heroes.

What advice would you share with anyone?

Spend time regularly reflecting on what truly makes you happy and fulfilled in this life, and link what you discover to an activity and/or profession that allows you to fulfill that calling. If your conscious calling involves making the world a better place or improving the lives of others (directly or indirectly), then I truly believe that the universe will conspire to make your goal a reality. All we have to be is patient, and recognise that things will happen in their own timing, not necessarily the timing that we would prefer.

Dionne Paterson is an aspiring Project Coordinator who dreams of executing meaningful projects with Non-Governmental and International Organizations. Prior to volunteering with The Heroes Foundation, she spent two years with the Rotaract Club of San Fernando-South as the International Service Chair and a member of the Board of Directors. She was the Club’s first International Service Chair and executed projects ranging from Mental Health, Coastal Clean-up and UN recognized international holidays with her team. Under her stewardship, the I.S. Committee was awarded a certificate of excellence for their execution of the Coastal Clean-up project, and her experience at Rotaract coupled with her ongoing passion project, Chapter You, solidified her current aspirations.

Before her project management pursuits, Dionne previously worked in the public sector and has recently gained certification in Office Administration, amongst other professional skills. Dionne holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations, Management Studies (minor) from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus. In a few years, she hopes to become PMP certified and embark on some real change.
